If you have never heard of this type of insect before, you may be asking yourself, "what are bed bugs?" This is common if you have never had this type of problem before but the unfortunate fact is that these types of insects are becoming more and more common and causing more and more trouble in homes throughout many nations.
Bed bugs are insects that seek hiding in dark, secluded areas and come out at night and feed. They are warm blooded feeders so humans make the perfect meal choice for these bugs. So what do they look like?
These bugs are tiny, brown, wingless insects that date back thousands of years. Mainly a story in fairy tales and rythmic sayings, (i.e. Don't let the bed bugs bite!) these bugs come from many different sources but once they find a suitable place to hide (like your bed) they snuggle in and reproduce until the group is extremely large and eat through it's source of food.
Signs of these insects include:
Dark, brown colored spots on the mattress.
Be sure to check underneath on the bottom of the mattress as well. The brown spotting is from the waste products the bugs create naturally.Bug rash is also common but can be difficult to recognize if you are unaware that you are infested. The red, spotty rash is often in rows or lines of bites and will itch like a normal rash. The best way to know this is from these types of bugs is if it happens every so often (between bug feedings) with a month or so in between.
Just because the bugs have hidden in your mattress, it's not always the end of the world as an exterminator can usually do the job in a quick amount of time! If anyone ever asks you what are bed bugs, you can now tell them they really do exist!
